HILLEL’S ALTERNATIVE SPRING BREAK TRIP TO NEW ORLEANS
Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005. Although the damage occurred several years ago, much of New Orleans is still recovering and continues to need volunteers to help rebuild and revive the city. This spring, Northeastern students have the opportunity to travel with Northeastern Hillel to volunteer their time and explore the Crescent City.
This program seeks to educate students - through a mix of experiential service and study - about social action in a Jewish framework. The program will introduce students to the rich and vibrant culture of New Orleans and its Jewish community, and will offer opportunities for participants to foster meaningful relationships with local residents. Participants will engage in a rich assortment of activities, including helping out on a Habitat for Humanity build site; volunteering in a school; participating in discussions about the work they are doing and the broader concept of tikkun olam (repairing the world); spending free time in the French Quarter and at other New Orleans attractions; assisting at a Jewish retirement home; and hearing the stories of various New Orleans residents.
The trip will run from Sunday, February 28th through Sunday, March 7th.
The Northeastern Hillel ASB Program promises to be a meaningful, rewarding and fun experience!
